Why Stick with PS4?
I bought a PS4 2 years ago and have been using it as my main console, even though it was released in 2013. When comparing PS4 vs PS5, many PS4 owners, including myself, are still happy with this 11-year-old console. The PS4 is affordable; you can find good condition used PS4s literally anywhere, and most PS5 games are still launching on the PS4. So why upgrade?
PS5 is Not Much More Affordable Than PS4
Price is one of the main reasons not to upgrade or buy a PS5. The PS5 was released just 4 years ago, but the price hasn’t really dropped by much. There are two PS5 variations now available on the market.
- PlayStation®5 Digital Edition Console: $399.99
- PlayStation®5 Console (Slim model): $449.99
On the other hand, there are 3 PS4 versions, which is much more affordable than the PS5
- PS4 Slim (1TB, used): Around $150
- PS4 Fat (used): Around $100
- PS4 Pro (used): Around $180 or cheaper
All of these used price are taken from eBAY.
So, why upgrade to a PS5 when we can literally play 98% of the games on a PS4? In the PS4 vs PS5 comparison, if Sony offered some discount, that would be a reason to purchase a PS5. But instead, the retail price of the PS5 has actually increased in some locations.
Lots of Games to Play on PS4
Most people still haven’t finished playing many AAA games on the PS4. Besides that, many new games are coming to the PS4 day by day, except for some PS5 exclusives which are only available on the PS5. This is one of the main reasons people buy a PS4 instead of a PS5 in the ongoing PS4 vs PS5 debate. You may also consider these benefits:
Consider these benefits:
- Affordable Used Games: Used PS4 game discs are widely available and very affordable.
- Game Resale: You can sell your used discs after playing them, almost like playing for free.
- PS Plus Subscription: Provides access to hundreds of games at a low cost.
- Multiplayer Titles: Games like FIFA, NBA, and Cricket will likely continue to be released for PS4 for years.
Price of Games is Expensive
PS5 exclusive games are releasing nowadays costing a minimum of $59.99, with some even costing more. In the PS4 vs PS5 debate, making AAA games costs a handsome amount of money, and people are aware of that. But most people won’t be happy to pay $59.99 or more for just a game, when they can buy a used PS4 for the cost of 2 games.
Besides games, PS5 accessories also cost a handsome amount of money. So buying a PS5 won’t be easy for most people. Most people won’t spend that much money just to play games.
Very Few PS5 Exclusive Titles
There aren’t many exclusive games released that are worth buying a PS5 or upgrading to it. In the PS4 vs PS5 comparison, most PS5 games are getting released on the PS4, so there’s no reason to pay a couple of extra hundred dollars just to play a few extra games.
However, a game like GTA VI might force many people to buy a PS5 or upgrade to it. A game like that is one people don’t want to miss. But currently, there’s no game like that for which people would want to buy a PS5.
Conclusion of PS4 vs PS5 Battle
Those who casually game or those who don’t like to spend much money on gaming shouldn’t buy a PS5 or upgrade. In the PS4 vs PS5 debate, it’s clear that casual gamers might not need the latest console. But those who are passionate about gaming and have the ability can easily buy a PS5 for a better experience.
