General Thoughts

Final Fantasy XVI is pretty enjoyable game to play. I finished the whole story of Final Fantasy XVI. Below I’m writing a short summarize review about Final Fantasy XVI.

final fantasy xvi characters

Characters

  • Clive and Main Characters: Clive Rosfield is an older, the main protagonist, brought to life brilliantly by Ben Starr. Jill is an amazing companion, Joshua is lovable, Dion stands out, Cid adds gravitas, Gav grew on me, and Torgal is the best partner.
  • Side Characters: The town supporters and Hideaway residents are well-developed. Martha stands out as one of my favorite.

Villains

  • Mixed Bag: Benedikta is one of the most tragic and fascinating villain, and Hugo is enjoyable to hate. However, Annabelle’s buildup leads to nothing, Barnabas feels underdeveloped, and Ultima is just weird in a bad way.

Story

  • Overall: I enjoyed the narrative, however certain portions were boring. The prologue felt like a peak. Though Clive achieved a lot of growth, the political conflict’s potential was not fully realized  It felt like a setup for DLC because of the confusing ending.
  • Tone: The story sometimes lacks humor and fun, with too many NPC deaths and an overall depressing tone. A few more interactions with Nectar would have brought the tone back into balance.

World Building

  • Valisthea: The world feels lived in, with unique character in each town. However, with few secrets and uninteresting treasure chests, the exploration felt incomplete.

fantasy fantasy xvi combat

Gameplay

  • Loot and Equipment: Loot is mostly garbage, and weapons and armor lack strategic depth due to no elemental buffs.
  • Combat: Prefer old-school party-based combat. I don’t like that FF16’s action combat is more skill-based than it is strategic.
  • Eikon Fights: Visually spectacular but combat-wise simplified and mostly QTEs and knowledge checks.

Side Quests

  • Quests: Though mostly fetch quests, I liked how they are comforting and build backstory for side characters and the world.

Visuals and Performance

  • Graphics: Top-tier for PS5, with some lighting issues.
  • Loading Times: Super fast, which is great.

Music

  • Soundtrack: Fantastic, even though it falls short of FF7’s nostalgic heights. It will take time to see whether it has a lasting effect. The song “Founder’s Footsteps” is my favorite track.

When I start thinking of my experience with FF16, the game has been a remarkable one. Even though I didn’t like some elements, Final Fantasy 16 is still a standout game in terms of its characters, world-building, graphics, and soundtrack.

Overall

I would rate the game 7 out of 10. It’s not the best of the series. But it’s pretty enjoyable . If you are a fan of Final Fantasy its a must play for you. For more blogs like this click here. Happy Gaming!
