General Thoughts

I’ve always loved Spider-Man, from his compelling story arcs to his memorable villains. I love the courage of his, no matter how many time he fails, he always try to fight back for his loving ones. Indeed, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was the  most anticipated game for me. But sadly, it didn’t meet my expectation storywise. Here’s a short Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review from my experience:

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Review: Miles Morales swings through the city, showcasing his iconic suit and web-slinging action in this thrilling game.

Story

I was expecting the story to focus on the dark sides of all the main characters but it failed my expectation. We saw little of it, it’s more like the plot itself is not about that at all. Though in game we can see Mile’s vengeance against Martin Li, Mary Jane’s transformation  into Scream and her duel with Peter, and Peter’s fight with the symbiote.

  • Miles: I expected a great fight between Miles and Martin Li. But Miles didn’t do anything bad to Martin Li. We just saw a scene where Miles held him on a web where he was meant to help Peter to save people. THAT’s IT? Yeah, at the end of the game we just saw Martin Li got into the good side.
  • Mary Jane: It’s funny about MJ ( Mary Jane). To the end of the game we see she gets taken over by a symbiote. During the whole boss fight we saw her saying only bad things about Parker. Like how bad parker is, how selfish he is, etc. But guess what, they took her and revealed all her problems in one boss fight that lasts about 20 minutes. There are no cutscenes, no gradual progression of conflict throughout the game. And then everything falls into place. For what ? I do not know.
  • Peter: Peter is probably the best of all. But don’t think that means he’s good. After receiving the suit he starts to become more aggressive and tougher. However, this arc is short and leads nowhere. Peter doesn’t lose much, except Harry, who already had G-Serum. Peter doesn’t spend much time, in the entire game, with Harry or MJ while he was in the Symbiote. Miles saves Peter, bringing the story to an abrupt end. Deeper conflicts, such as significant problems with Miles and MJ or inappropriate behavior at school, were not explored in the game. The symbiote’s potential was not fully realized, as evidenced by the suit’s superficially objectionable characteristics.
  • Kraven: I actually liked Kraven’s character. I really liked his background, that he has an serious illness and doesn’t want to die a wimp in bed. He wants to explore the death of the brave. He’s not the villain like we saw before, he is different, he killed Vulture, Scorpion as well as the Spider-Man but luckily spider-man was saved by the symbiote. However, I think that his screen time could be a bit longer. The focus shifted from him to Venom was kinda fast.

  • Venom: Venom’s portrayal was again another disappointment. We all knew that Venom wants to kill Spider-Man but we saw that venom wanted to take over the world in the game and without killing Spidey he wanted Spidey to join him. I believed  Venom going to be Peter Parker’s personal enemy and I also belived that Venom would have been someone other than Harry, Like Eddie Brock. But we didn’t see none of these thing in the game.

Gameplay

  • Combat: The combat in the game is very enjoyable. I like the new super strike system. For the combat the game felt pretty enjoyable not boring at all. In the game we had to fight a lot and there’s lots of variation which was eye pleasing. Also the combat didn’t have the chance to felt boring because of two playable characters.

  • Activities: Collectibles felt less interesting compared to the first game, where backpacks revealed lore and backstory. The side story involving Cletus Cassidy was intriguing but ended in a strange and comedic manner. The FNSM app was a nice feature, allowing me to engage in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man activities and take a break from the main storyline.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack was mind blowing. Much much better than the first. I personally enjoyed the themes for Kraven, Harry and the Symbiote. But the John Paesano was another level banger.

Overall

I would rate the game 8 out of 10. I’m really looking forward to play the 3rd part of the game. The story could have been better but overall the game is pretty enjoyable. Those who are fan of Spider-Man must play this game. You won’t get bore I can make sure of that. For more blog like this click here. Happy Gaming!
